Bayern Munich Preseason: Football has turned out to be an integral part of the lives of football fans. We feel something missing when we can’t get to see football action on a Thursday or a Saturday night and even the Sunday afternoons can’t entertain without a Football game.

That’s what the pre-seasons are for in the perspective of the fans. The games aren’t important because they aren’t a part of any competitive league or cup schedule, but still, you get to see academy players and your club’s new signings given a chance. More than anything, you want to see the team in action once again, a bit earlier than the actual competitions start.

This year, the Euros have saved us from mid-July boredom. Nevertheless, we wouldn’t want such boredom to take front seats and the pre-season has arrived to save us from just that.

The off-season couldn’t get any better if teams like Bayern are in action as well. For Bayern Munich, the 2016/17 season officially begins on 11 July when new boss Carlo Ancelotti takes up his duties at the Säbener Strasse. As always, Germany’s most successful club will complete a varied and colourful pre-season programme with an extensive tour of the USA as this year’s highlight.

Key dates of pre-season training and games are given in the table below.

Bayern Munich have already started their pre-season training on 11th July, Carlo Ancelotti has arrived in Munich and has also given a press conference, stating his goals and ambitions for the upcoming 2016/17 Bundesliga season.

Three days from now, Bayern will kick-start the pre-season games, the first one is against a soft opponent from the 5th division of German football, Oberliga Westfalen, who go by the name of SV Lippstadt, an association football club from the city of Lippstadt, North Rhine-Westphalia.

A  reason why this game is very special in its own way is the fact that the town of Lippstadt is where Bayern Munich chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge originally hails from, and it is in SV Lippstadt where Rummenigge started his football career. SV Lippstadt have a stadium that can seat 8000 spectators. 50 percent of the net proceedings of the match will be offered for the refugee aid programs in Lippstadt and the other half is given to the Oberliga league system for its maintenance and development.

Bayern Munich preseason schedule for 2016/17

On 20th July, we would witness a memorable pre-season clash, perhaps the most memorable clash of them all, as Pep Guardiola returns to the sidelines in Allianz Arena, but this time as a Manchester City FC head coach. New head coach Carlo Ancelotti also makes his home debut against his predecessor Pep Guardiola in the first absolute highlight of the new season.

The players involved in the EURO 2016 will not be a part of the squad, but Bayern will certainly field a top team. Philipp Lahm, Arjen Robben, Franck Ribery, Xabi Alonso, Javi Martinez and Douglas Costa are all expected to feature. The match will be broadcast live on ZDF.

On 23rd July, Bayern would go light after the City clash by facing 6th division (Landesliga Bayern-Südost) side Spvgg Landshut at 17:30 CET/15:30 GMT.

The above clash possibly serves a warmup game to the following International Champions cup to be held in USA, in which Bayern would be taking a part. The Bavarians will face old foes AC Milan in Chicago, followed by the latter’s crosstown rivals Inter Milan, and just like last year’s pre-season, would meet up with Real Madrid CF in New York.

11 days later, the much awaited Supercup clash is to be contested against Borussia Dortmund, the first Bundesliga side that Bayern would unofficially play against. The DFB first cup rounds start around 19th of July, Bayern will probably face 4th division(Regionalliga Nordost) side FC Carl Zeiss Jena.

And on 26th August, Bayern kickstart the 2016-17 Bundesliga season by playing the league’s opening game against SV Werder Bremen.
