Arsenal Vs Liverpool Match Preview

It is the 21st consecutive year for Wenger as Arsenal manager and questions are being raised upon whether it will be his last one. Fans have already suffered a lot from lack of trophies and wouldn’t wait much if the trend continues. They will be expecting the team to compete for the title. But in a league consisting of world renowned managers, it will be very difficult for every top team, let alone Arsenal.
On the other side, Jurgen Klopp will have his first full season in charge. Liverpool fans will be optimistic about how Klopp has brought improvements and positive changes, either in terms of tactics or players. They do understand that currently they are in a rebuilding transition for a brighter future and it does look promising. Their foremost concern will be bringing Champions league football back to Anfield as soon as possible. However, having lesser fixtures might turn in their favour and who knows, they might even win the league.

Arsenal Vs Liverpool Team News

Team News – Arsenal

Arsenal will already be suffering in central defence due to the injuries to Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista. Meanwhile, Koscielny has returned just this Monday and is ruled out due to lack of match fitness. Wenger will be forced to put his trust in younger options i.e. Calum Chambers and new signing Rob Holding. The young duo was promising in pre-season, but they will be lacking the much-needed experience to counter Liverpool’s attack line consisting Sadio Mane, Firmino, Phillipe Coutinho, etc. Other options include lining up Monreal or Debuchy in central defence for their ‘experience’.

In attacking department, Olivier Giroud and Mesut Ozil returned to first team training on Monday with Koscielny and are ruled out for the similar reason. They will likely be replaced by Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla respectively. However, the team will be boosted by the return of star men Alexis Sanchez and Aaron Ramsey. New signing Granit Xhaka will likely be handed his Premier League debut and will be expected to hold the midfield together against Liverpool’s high pressing system.

Liverpool has their fair share of injuries as well. New goalkeeper signing Loris Karius and first choice centre-back Mamadou Sakho are sidelined due to injuries sustained in the pre-season. While, Marko Grujic, James Milner and Daniel Sturridge will likely have late fitness tests for contention to the starting XI.

However, they had an impressive transfer window and have added prolific players in Sadio Mane, Georgino Wijnaldum, Ragnar Klavan, and Joel Matip. Joel Matip is currently sidelined, but others are likely to start or have a place on the bench. Ragnar Klavan will slot straight into central defence consisting Clyne, Lovren and Moreno. Wijnaldum will likely to face competition from the already established Jordan Henderson and Emre Can. Meanwhile, their attack does have a lot of options in Coutinho, Firmino, Lallana, Sturridge, Origi, Mane. Sadio Mane will certainly be given his ‘Red’ and is expected to harass Arsenal’s defenders.
