Ruben Loftus-Cheek impresses new coach Antonio Conte

The Chelsea youth academy graduate is one of the most talked young talents in English football but has not been given much time on the pitch as expected in his first two seasons with the first team. Former Jose Mourinho did use the player in Cup games, but he was not given a chance against threatening opponents. When the entire Chelsea team were failing to impress, it is highly expected that Ruben Loftus-Cheek will get his much-deserved chance, but neither Jose Mourinho nor Guus Hiddink did the ‘most expected’.

Chelsea board who were known for loaning out young players refused any offers that were made for Ruben Loftus-Cheek. It was reported that Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus were showing interest on the talented English. But Chelsea were adamant on their decision and hold on to Ruben Loftus-Cheek. As expected, the decision was not at all wrong.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek impresses new coach Antonio Conte

RLC was one of the best players for Chelsea in the first preseason tour. Though the opponents were not equal Chelsea’s English Premier League opponents, RLC’s performances were impressive. Talking about him, new manager Antonio Conte said:

Every manager has their own idea about a system of play. In this system, with two midfielders, Ruben can play close to the other forward but become a forward when we have the ball. He has the right characteristics to play in this position and he showed that today.

RLC was given a different role, a much different one under new manager Antonio Conte and the player is confident that he will earn his place in the first team by impressing the Italian boss.

I am just looking to play as much as I can. I will ask the boss what he wants from me and try to do what he asks. I will be myself on the pitch and try and play how I play as that’s what has got me here.
I think I can do a job in midfield as well, I told the boss I will play where he wants me to play. It is not a problem if he wants me to play as a striker, I will play there. At the moment I just want to be playing games

Ruben earning a permanent starting berth in the Chelsea team will be a dream come true for not just the player, also to the millions of Chelsea fans around the globe who are desperate to see their academy players dominate the first team. The fans hope RLC’s improvement will motivate the other young talents in the academy to fight for a place in the team.
