“I want Real Madrid to Champions League,” Ivan Rakitic backed the Los Blancos to win the Champions League which will be the Eleventh European title to the Los Galacticos. Luka Modric, Rakitic’s Croatian teammate, and Real Madrid’s pivotal midfielder is expected to pay a vital role for Croatia in the upcoming Euro 2016. Rakitic wants his ‘brother’, that’s how the Croatian mentioned Modric when the pair were compared by the Spanish media, to win the Champions League so that Modric can get the morale boost.
Real Madrid are the favorites to win the competition after Barcelona was knocked out in the quarterfinals by another Madrid side Atletico Madrid. The Los Blancos face Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium in the first leg of Champions League semi-final and are in a tight battle for the La Liga crown. With three match weeks to go, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid are separated only by a point, a single point lost in the next three games will take away the La Liga title.
Barcelona are on the summit of La Liga while the Madrid side have high hopes on winning their Eleventh Champions League title. The rivalry between the two sides is historic and is more vibrant than any other rivalries in the world that make Rakitic’s public backing spicier.
“I hope Real Madrid win the Champions League with Luka Modric, to boost our national team at Euro 2016,” Rakitic told.
Last year, Madrid Legend Raul Gonzalez backed the Catalans to win the Champions League after Madrid’s elimination as he wanted the Champions League crown to reside in Spain, but Rakitic’s Madrid backing is not about Spain or the rivalry, it is purely about Croatia. Croatia has one of the best midfield powers in Europe with Luka Modric, Ivan Rakitic supported by Perisic who has been so impressive for Inter Milan this season.
