Pele, the King of football, arguably the greatest ever player to play the game has voiced his interest to play football once again in the Olympics 2016 which Brazil hosts. Of course, he was just joking! He is way too old to think about it but has promised the Brazil fans that he will be cheering the team from the VIP’s box.

Pele - Olympics

Pele who has won THREE world cups and many more other accolades have not won an Olympic Golf for his national, in fact, he has not played in the world’s biggest sporting tournament. In his time, professional players were not allowed to play in the Olympics and thus Pele missed his opportunity even he was playing the game since he was 15-year-old.

Pele signed his first professional contract with Brazilian club Santos at the age of 15 and made his debut for the Brazil national team at the age of 16. He has won everything a football could win at his time but told that not winning an Olympics Gold for his nation is still an unfinished job in his career.

“The only title Brazil doesn’t have is the Olympic tournament champion. The only tournament I never played because I was professional was the Olympics. Now, we’re going have the Olympics in Brazil.”

“I think I’m going to prepare to play this Olympics. Maybe I’ll win this championship for Brazil. In five months, I have to be prepared for that,” said the evergreen former Santos star.

Brazil National Team
Neymar, Pele’s heir is expected to lead his country in the Olympics tournament as he is one of the three over-age players in the Brazilian national team. Each team is allowed to use players aged of 23 or over in their team since 1984 and Neymar will be the first player Dunga will prefer. Pele wished good luck to his compatriots with one condition, bring the Gold to Brazil !!
