England Vs Wales: Perhaps a fascinating match that had a lot of emotions to talk and feel about, particularly after a wide of range brawls and witty war of words before the kick-off. Now here are some of the top post-match comments from various stars who took part in the historical clash.
England Vs Wales Post-match Comments
Wales manager, Chris Coleman :
“A point for us would have been fantastic. They’re a good team, very strong. We knew we had to ride our luck a little bit and most of the time we were quite strong. They had a lot of possession but we weren’t really… that worried.
It was disappointing to give up that point with 60 seconds to go. We’ve got to put it to bed and get through to the last 16. If you’re from Wales you’re looking at this game because it’s England but for me it was the middle of three games. We’re still in the tournament, it’s still all to play for.
When you’re bringing on the likes of Vardy and Sturridge and Sterling’s coming off, we knew we were up against it. It was a good old-fashioned British derby game.”
Wales defender, Ashley Williams :
“It’s tough for everyone but we’ve got another game on Monday, it’s a quick turnaround.
It was close to getting another point but that’s football sometimes. We’ve all felt this way sometimes – this one a little bit more.
We knew to concentrate and keep focused up until the last minute and there was a deflection and a good finish.
A few of us have spoken, it hurts, we’ll regroup, stick together and tomorrow we’ll do something as a squad and get over it. At the end of the day we’ve got three points from two games.”
England captain, Wayne Rooney :
“I think we needed to move the ball quicker. In the second half the manager’s made some positive changes and it’s paid off.
I think it’s shown today what a good squad we’ve got. It’s a great feeling to win the game we way we did – it was a great victory but a fully deserved one.
He’ll be delighted, I seen him today – it’s 112 days ago he made his debut for Manchester United.”
Wales captain, Gareth Bale :
“Obviously massively disappointing. We gave everything like we always do but we came out and gave 100% so can’t have any regrets.
Inside we still feel strong, still feel happy. The tournament’s not over yet. We’ll go into the next game with even more strength. “
Injury time winner, Daniel Sturridge :
“Great feeling. Unbelievable. I’m grateful for the opportunity, grateful for god for letting me score.”
“It’s crazy man, like. There’s only one more game in the group – there’s not many games you get an atmosphere like this.
That’s the gaffer’s decision. My job is to go out and grab the opportunity.”
