Chelsea eye Christian Benteke swoop: Chelsea are eyeing Christian Benteke swoop if they fail to land their priority signing Romelu Lukaku in the summer, according to London-based English daily The Times. The reports claim that the West Londoners are behind the Belgian striker who has not had a big impact at Liverpool under former manager Brendon Rodgers and was not even used regularly by new boss Jurgen Klopp. The Belgian is reportedly on his way out of Liverpool in the summer and it is reported that Chelsea are keen to add the Belgian to their ranks with new manager Antoine Conte is believed to be preferring a double striker formation.

Chelsea are already well stocked at the striker position with Diego Costa leading the line, deputed by Loic Remy, Patric Bamford, and Bertrand Traore. But the future of Loic Remy is almost over at Chelsea since the club has already listed him for transfer. If Conte is set to play a double striker formation, Chelsea are in need of a new striker who can partner Diego Costa up front. Though Chelsea have impressive young talents at their disposal, it is highly unlikely that they will prefer giving their academy players a chance that they deserve.

Christian Benteke was impressive for Aston Villa but has failed to continue his impressive form at Liverpool. Most of the times Benteke got chances to start the game only¬† because the fact that Liverpool had no other players to play as a No.9. Klopp dared to play Roberto Firminho as a false 9 and benched Benteke which eventually raised question on Benteke’s future.

Chelsea are also in the chase to sign highly wanted strikers, Romelu Lukaku, Gonzalo Higuain, and Alvaro Morata and there are very slight chances for Christian Benteke since the player is not really a material that would please the Chelsea faithful. But as we all say, anything is possible in football world and it will not be a big surprise if Chelsea really go out and sign Benteke in first place ahead of their primary targets. At least the player can be a good backup, better than the current back squad of Chelsea’s striker unit.
