Puyol slammed Gerrard Pique and Alvaro Arbeloa: Carlos Puyol has voiced his frustration about his former team-mate Gerrard Pique’s continuous social media taunts aimed at arch-rivals Real Madrid. Pique has been the center of news headlines many times this season, not for his performances on the field but his tweets in the Social media site Twitter. Pique mocked Real Madrid after Barcelona won the El Clasico at the Santiago Bernabeu later this season.
The Real Madrid camp did not stay quiet as well, Alvaro Arbeloa, a strong presence in the Real Madrid dressing room and a die-hard Madridista who is considered as one of the best graduates from the famous La-Fabrica facilities. The Spaniard mocked back Pique in Twitter in many occasions and the latest one came when Real Madrid defeated Barcelona in the El Clasico held at the Nou Camp. The taunts continued when Real Madrid lost to Wolfsburg in the Champions League and also after Barcelona’s exit from the competition later.
Carlos Puyol, the Barcelona legend who now works as a player agent came to advise both parties to ‘stay away’ from all these social media taunts. The veteran Spaniard revealed the Real Madrid – Barcelona rivalry should be kept HEALTHY and a sportsmanship should be encouraged. He continued saying there should be a mutual RESPECT from both parties beyond the historical rivalry.
“I think it’s better of neither of them continue this game, because a lot of kids will be watching.”
“Gerard is a close friend of mine, one of the best we’ve seen in football”
“But it’d be better if both parties do not continue with this game. The Real Madrid-Barcelona rivalry will always exist, but with respect,” said Puyol.
