Top 5 Most Talked Transfer Sagas of 2016 Summer Transfer Window

Transfer Window do not need to bring good things always. It brings sorrow sometimes, heart breaks, sometimes funny things happen. Likewise, every transfer window hosts a number os transfer that is being discussed for months but did not materialise. This summer (the 2016 Summer Transfer Window), we have seen such transfer news/rumours dominating the news, but just did not take place. Starting from Antoine Griezmann, we have seen high profile players like Paul Pogba, Marco Verratti, Diego Costa, Robert Lewandowski, James Rodriguez, Karim Benzema, Paulo Dybala and many more being linked with almost all the top clubs in Europe. Though some of the deals are completed, most of them did not happen.

Here is a list of the Top 5 transfer sagas of this summer transfer window that did not materialise.

Top 5 Most Talked Transfer Sagas of 2016 Summer Transfer Window

1. Antoine Griezmann

The Atletico Madrid and France star is one of the most wanted forwards in Europe and there is no surprise that clubs fought over to sign the prolific striker. Real Madrid, Chelsea, Manchester United, Manchester City all targetted the Atletico man, but the player committed his future to the Roji Blancos. Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Juventus are also linked with the player.

2. Diego Costa

Unlike Griezmann, Costa was linked with just one club, Atletico Madrid. The Brazil-born Spanish striker is heavily linked with a move back to his former team. There were even reports claiming manager Diego Simeone has asked the club to bring back Costa to the Vicente Calderon. But, Atletico board somehow convinced Simeone and signed Kevin Gameiro instead of Costa. That does not stop the rumours, of course, it will not. Costa was then linked with a move to Italy and he is still not guaranteed a starting berth in the Blues’ camp.

3. Marco Verratti

After Paul Pogba, Verratti is the second most chased midfielder in Europe. Just like Pogba, the Italian was also linked with all the European top clubs. The list includes Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Manchester United. But, Paris Saint-Germain stood firm and penned a new contract extension for the player. Verratti is still not ready to play for PSG as he is recovering from his injury.

4. Shkodran Mustafi

The Valencia centre-back is followed by Arsenal throughout the transfer window, but the deal is still incomplete. Arsenal can not agree on terms with the La Liga side as they value Mustafi around 50m pounds. How can you expect Arsenal and Wenger to pay such amount to a player? They will not and Arsenal fans should satisfy themselves with Gabrial Paulista.

5. Kalidou Koulibaly

After Manchester United, Arsenal and the other teams backtracked, Chelsea are now leading the chase to sign the Napoli defender. The 25-year-old is said to be nearing a world record move to Chelsea, but the deal may collapse in the last minute as some reports claim Chelsea may not spend as high as 50m pounds on a central defender as they already have a good number of young prospects in their squad. Also, if Chelsea’s Ricardo Rodriguez chase ends positive, Chelsea may play Ivanovic as a CB.

Other than the players we mentioned, James Rodriguez, Ricardo Rodriguez, Cesc Fabregas, Alexander Lacazette are some of the other players who are in the transfer column for a long time but still did not make a move officially.
