James Rodriguez – The Misplaced Gem

James Rodriguez, the ‘Golden Boy’ of Real Madrid, of course, it was some months back. Now, he is the very first player to leave the club after failing to impress new coach Zinedine Zidane. The World Cup Golden Boot winner was signed for the Los Blancos as a ‘Galactico’ signing and he replaced the UCL Hero for Real Madrid, Angel di Maria. When Di maria was sold, it was expected that Real Madrid will suffer a lot but the little Colombian stood firm and proved that he is worth to be called as a ‘Galactico’.

As everyone say, ‘nothing is permanent’ and so do is James’ success with Real Madrid. Some injuries coupled with managerial changes hindered his performances. Rafa Benitez changed his usual role that James was playing under Carlo Ancelotti. James Rodriguez played the No.10 role that Di Maria left under Ancelotti, but was made to play wider by Benitez. In the start of this season, James was the best attacker for Real Madrid but his performances took a stumbling block once Gareth Bale returned. James was made to play a make shift to Gareth Bale, though Bale proved his worth, James did not deserve to be benched.

Then, the things changed from bad to worse when Zinedine Zidane took over. James Rodriguez and Zinedine Zidane did not get along well from the very first meeting, it is understood from the pair’s touchline actions. James Rodriguez avoided seeing Zidane eye-to-eye on many occasions and his dissatisfaction with his manager is blatant on numerous occasions. James Rodriguez is Colombia’s best player in the ongoing Copa America tournament and is arguably the best hope that the Colombians got.

Amid his brilliant displays for Colombia, James Rodriguez’s future at the Santiago Bernabeu is under a big threat as he still has not been given a permanent starting berth unlike the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Luka Modric and Toni Kroos. Until this core of Real Madrid remains, James’s chances of making a permanent starting berth is only a dream. With Zidane preferring a solid defensive midfielder unlike Carlo Ancelotti who preferred to play with a centre attacking mid backed by two centre mid’s, James has no room in the starting XI of Real Madrid. He can’t play as a striker, he can’t play a central midfielder, he is not a defensive minded player as well. So, the chances of James making the cut next season is very less.

Only possible chance for James is, Real Madrid should sell one of their two star forwards playing wide (i.e) either one of Cristiano Ronaldo or Gareth Bale should be SOLD which is next to impossible. So James has no way to break into the Real Madrid starting XI since Zidane has made it clear that he is not changing his style of play.

Looking at James’ potential, he has everything Real Madrid needs or praises. He is a match winner, he is born skilled, he has fans, he is versatile, he is silky as silk, he can score from range, he can deliver awesome crosses, he can be deadly with a dead ball, he can score winning penalties and more importantly he is so famous among the South American fans that help Real Madrid’s jersey sales. But the only problem James have is, he is the right place but at the WRONG TIME ! When two of the best forwards in the world in Ronaldo and Bale playing ahead of you and you manager prefers a different playing style that does not fit your talents, you will obviously have little chances.

James Rodrigues is a MISPLACED GEM !! Real Madrid should use him well or should sell him for GOODNESS of the player. He does not deserve to be benched.
